Serving the arts in the Fredericton area
The Artists in Residence Program is a series of week-long residencies for artists during the summer months. The residencies take place in the Soldiers' Barracks in the Historic Garrison District of Downtown Fredericton. The program, which has been operational since 2002, is an annual event that usually runs from June to September.
It features two different artists each week, and over the years has profiled over 150 local Fredericton artists. Each year the studio sees upwards of 4000 or more visitors. At the end of each year, normally a gallery exhibition is held profiling all artists from that year.
The main purpose of this project is to bring awareness of the talented and thought-provoking work produced by Fredericton artists, and to involve the community in the local arts scene.
The Artists in Residence program provides a chance for tourists and the general public to watch and engage in the art making process, and allows them to talk to the artists about their creative process(es). It brings local arts out of the galleries and onto the streets.
